#CISPA #Blackout

CISPA is all over Twitter! If you haven’t heard or seen anything about it start following @OpManning and check out the hashtag #CISPA. Honestly, I didn’t really know much about CISPA until I joined this class. I would definitely encourage you to find out more information and see what you think and believe about it. It’s always good to be informed. Here’s something I tweeted the other day and I think it really applies to this…

@ChassKreider @CourtneyKissMe“You don’t have to get involved, just ask questions.” #livestreaming

One of my fellow classmates, Ryan, has a blog called The Digital Dark Knight. He takes an in-depth look at the relationship between Anonymous and the Batman trilogy. Recently, Ryan made a video about CISPA that related to Anoymous. Check it out here. If you don’t know much about what is going on, I just want to encourage you to be a learner.

What do you readers out there think about CISPA?

Twitter #MyLastPost #Farewell

Well, my friends, hope this week you’ve had the chance to hold on to those you love and express to them how you feel. I’m sure you’ve heard about what happened in Texas. But, my blog post isn’t really about what’s going on in the Twitter world today. I wanted to let you know that this will be my last post…I know, I know you’re going to miss me! I will most certainly miss you too.

It has been such an amazing journey sharing with you all on this blog. And if you don’t have a Twitter account yet I hope I’ve convinced you to get one. Twitter truly is about community. We saw it with #PrayforBoston and we saw it with #PrayforTexas. We even saw it all throughout this blog with Arab Spring, Ai Weiwei and so much more.

I hope that by reading this blog you’ve experienced Twitter in a completely different way than you ever have before. I want to challenge you readers out there to really find where you belong on Twitter. There’s something for everyone! It opens up so many doors for us to learn and grow. I truly hope that you’ve seen Twitter in this way. I want to leave you with a video that takes you on a journey to experience the community of Twitter.

My Take on Twitter and the #BostonMarathon

Well, as you probably know by now there was a bombing at the Boston Marathon yesterday.  How did I find out? The news of the bombs was spreading all throughout social media sites. Watch this video to learn more about the bombings…

I was in the EMU library getting ready for a presentation when I started seeing posts all over Facebook and Twitter that said things like this…

LeBron James@KingJames Prayers goes out to those involved/hurt in #BostonMarathon. WTF is wrong with people man. Just sad

Anderson Cooper 360°@AC360 #Breaking news: terror attack at #Boston marathon. @AndersonCooper is anchoring live from the location. #AC360

OccupyHarrisonburg@OccupyHburg Map of explosions at the Boston Marathon – The Washington Post. Multiple casualties in bombing. JV #ows #ohb

I watched and experienced Twitter like I never have before. It felt like I was there when room listings started, when the FBI took over, and when the death total rose from 2 to 3 people. It was such an incredibly heart-breaking experience.

I found an article from Time Magazine that quoted Mr. Rogers, and I happen to like the quote too. It helps me realize there is still beauty in the midst of ashes.

Twitter #Anonymous

What is anonymous? Check out this video to learn more!

Crazy, huh?! If you really enjoyed the video about you might be interested in this longer version called We Are Legion.

When I first created my Twitter account I started following @YourAnonNews. The first month I didn’t really notice them doing anything, but in February I heard about some hacking that was going on inside Twitter. I started hearing about how Burger King had been hacked, Donald Trump, Jeep and so on.

I started reading tweets like this…

@mashable The 10 McFunniest Reactions to Burger King Twitter Hack

@YourAnonNews #Doh | “It has come to our attention that the Twitter account of BURGER KING® brand has been hacked” |

I don’t know for sure, but Anonymous sure did make it seem like they hacked these people. You can read more here.

Anonymous also talked a lot about the Dorner case. You can check out the blog post I wrote about that here.

Anonymous can do some pretty crazy, funny, awesome and scary things. It’s up to you to decide what you think about them.

Interview #WHSV

So, the other day I was looking at the website for my local news station, WHSV. I was just on there to check out the weather, but I found something more interesting than having 90 degree weather on our first few days of spring. I found some buttons that linked to their Facebook page and Twitter account. I had absolutely no idea that my local news station had a Twitter account. I was impressed! So, I thought I’d do some investigating and I checked out their pages. I thought I’d go a little deeper so I sent out a tweet to @WHSVnews. Here is our conversation…

@ChassKreider @WHSVnews Do you think your news station benefits from having a Twitter account? #classproject

@WHSVnews @ChassKreider Yes! Most definitely! Twitter is one of the best ways to get and send real-time breaking news.

@ChassKreider @WHSVnews Thanks for your help!

It’s incredible that my local news station understands that Twitter really is one of the best ways to get and send real-time breaking news. I looked through some of their tweets to see how they were using Twitter. Here’s some tweets I found…

@WHSVnews RT @WHSVaubs Well we did it. Broke the 1922 record. Only for a few min, made it to 89° Cooling rest of week @WHSVnews

@WHSVnews UPDATE: All lanes are back open after a milk truck crash on I-64 near mm 98.

@WHSVnews Plan for another shorts day!

Twitter and any form of social media can be extremely beneficial for businesses and news stations. It’s incredible how fast news gets out when using Twitter. Check out this video to see what Twitter can do for businesses!

Twitter can be so helpful, at least I think so. What do you think about businesses having Twitter accounts?

Twitter #AiWeiwei #Art

Recently I had the privilege of watching a clip from the documentary Never Sorry. The film focuses on the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Check out the trailer…

From the trailer you get a glimpse of what Ai Weiwei is all about. He is so passionate about art but also about the people of Chine. He uses his art to express how he feels about government, life, people, culture and so much more. He truly is an artist of his time.

remebering-800x342 (This artwork is made completely out of backpacks after the earthquake)

The reason I decided to post about Ai Weiwei is because he has used Twitter in ways that most people haven’t. On August 12, 2009 Ai Weiwei was arrested by Chinese police. He posted this photo…

He had also been sending out tweets like this…

@aiww I don’t want the next generation to fight the same fight as I did.

It is powerful to see how Ai Weiwei involves community in his art just like Twitter is a medium for the community. After Ai sent out that photo on Twitter he got so many responses. Friends, family, fans were all fighting on his behalf. It’s amazing to reflect on how Twitter can be a source of communication that brings people from all around the world together.

If you are interested in this look for @AWWNeverSorry and @aliklay on Twitter. What do you think about Ai Weiwei’s story and his use of Twitter?

Twitter #Space #NASA

Until recently I had no idea how much Twitter was being used (I still don’t really have an idea, but I know more than I did before). Reliable sources like news stations and journalists are using Twitter as well. I recently discovered that NASA has a Twitter account. Now, I’m not really in to NASA (don’t get me wrong I think it’s cool!) but if I was I could check up on them through Twitter. How cool is that?!

I even discovered that NASA sent its first tweet from space in 2009 by Mike Massimino. NASA has a team that works with Twitter. Check out this video that explains a little bit of that…

Here’s some tweets from NASA…

@NASA [Image of the Day] New York City at Night

@NASAMeet 22 scientists working on cutting-edge #NASA Earth science from all over the country.  #EarthDay

This proves that there really is a place for everyone on Twitter. After you watch the video below you should check out NASA on Twitter…and let me know where you fit in on Twitter!
